The idea of me joining Campus was first suggested by my Dad when discussing my career options after leaving college. Unlike most of my friends, the university pathway was not going to be an option for me. I knew I wanted to go straight into the working world and continue my learning there.
I knew both Lee and Graham (IT@Spectrum's Sales Directors) from my local golf club. Knowing Lee and Graham gave me the chance to talk to them about Campus and the opportunities it could give me. After talking to them and gaining a better insight into Campus, I submitted my application.
I was fortunate enough to be selected for the recruitment process alongside 16 other applicants. The recruitment process was both challenging and demanding, unlike any interview I have ever had before. It was held at IT@Spectrum's state of the art headquarters and lasted an entire working day.
The process included an exam centred around IT@Spectrum and Campus, two interviews, and a self-presentation demonstrating why I should join the Campus Programme. After the final interview, we were told to return home and wait for a call to find out our results. I later received a call from the Head of Learning and Development, Jane, who told me I was one of 8 successful applicants to be joining the Campus programme!
I felt a sense of excitement the second I walked through the office doors on my first day in Campus. I knew this was my opportunity to start my career at a prestigious organisation. IT@Spectrum's premises were impressive, but the most notable observation I made when entering the building was the people. They instantly made me feel at ease as I could see the sense of team-work and togetherness, which I was determined to become a part of.
I cannot stress enough how important the support from all the staff, including my fellow Campus colleagues has been! Special thanks must go to my mentors Jane, Adrian and Aaron who between them have been both supportive and forever constructive in their advice to me.
I look forward to continuing my learning and development within the company and helping both the new Campus recruits and IT@Spectrum team achieve success.
